Search Results
Once you have executed a search, your search results will appear in the sort order you specified (by relevancy, title, or date). To resort the list, select another option in the sort menu (see right) If you did not use a keyword in your search, the relevancy sort will not be available and results will sort by date.
Your individual results show a brief citation of the full record, which includes the title, initial words of the description, subjects, keywords, date submitted, and the URL linking to the original resource. Subject and keyword terms are hyperlinked to search the PDP for other resources with the same subject or keyword in all focus areas. A link to More Details below the citation will link to full details for that resource.
In addition to listing your results, the results screen provides navigational elements including:
Search within Results
Directly below the Search tab, a search box allows you to search for keywords within your results list (keywords you have already searched for appear in the box). You can also select "entire PDP" in the dropdown menu and expand your search to all records in the PDP.
Modify, Save Search
In the upper right corner of your screen, you will see links to modify or save your search. (You must be logged in for the "save search" link to appear.) The "Modify" link will return you to the search screen, where you can enter a new search. The "save" link will allow you to save your search. You can retrieve all saved searches under "My Saved Searches" in the MyPDP tab.
Next/previous results
The PDP results screen displays 20 results per page. To see additional search results, navigate using the arrows in the upper right and left of the screen. See image.Connect with Colleagues
If you are signed in to the PDP, you may see this box appear to the right of your search. When you search for keywords, the PDP compares your search topic to the interests of other PDP users. PDP users whose interests match your search topic will appear here. Click on a name to go to the colleagues's listing in the PDP member directory. Please be sure to enter your own interests in your profile, so PDP users can find you too.
Full Citation (More Details)
From the results screen, you can select "More Details" to view the full citation of any resource in the PDP. Information in the full citation is explained below. Some fields are not listed for every resource. You can scroll through the citations using the same navigational arrows you see on the results screen.
- Title
- Complete description
- Focus Area
- Main Subjects
Main subjects represent a controlled vocabulary list for each focus area. Some resources may only have keywords until a controlled vocabulary is developed by focus area editors. Subject terms are hyperlinked to search the PDP for other resources with the same subject in all focus areas.- Keywords
Keywords are additional terms that describe the resource, but unlike main subjects are not drawn from a controlled vocabulary. Keyword terms are hyperlinked to search the PDP for other resources with the same keyword in all focus areas.- Resource Type
See search field help for a list of possible resource types and their descriptions.- Source
Source often refers to where a resource is located (such as a teaching and learning center at a specific UNC campus). This field is being refined by focus area editors and may not always refer to location.- Event Date
For conferences and events, this field lists the date of the event.- Date Submitted
This is the date the resource was submitted to the PDP.- URL
This is the referring URL to the actual online resource.
